Hi all, there is SSTV (slow scan TV) and ATV (Amateur Television), SSTV is similar to a fax transmission, still pictures, Yes, SSTV is supposed to fly on the ISS and I have already downloaded the software from Silicon Pixels website in anticipation. ATV (in Australia anyway) is just like normal televison, moving pictures AND sound. Let´s have one of these repeaters on the ISS. That would wake the public up a bit.

  • Setting up a SGATE on UI-VIEW   14 years 44 weeks ago

You can setup a SatGate server to connect to socal.aprs2.net:10150 to send the data. You will not receive any data on that port unless a message is sent directly to your station. That way, you effectively committ zero download bandwidth for your SatGate. It´s a good choice for unmonitored SatGates or people who have a SatGate as a secondary APRS program. I currently run UI-View in the background and connect it to this server so I can gate what I hear. Visit http://www.aprsca.net/ to find out more or http://aprsca.net:14601/ to see who is currently connected to this satgate.

Another program that soundcard packet users or folks that are new to ISS comms may wish to check out is a program called UISS. The author best describes it himself:
This program has been designed for packet communication with ISS (International Space Station), PCSat or ´compatible´ satellites with ease... And for any UI packet communication (unproto) and connecting. You can digi or connect the satellites (or nodes) with UI-frames (unproto) complete with TX-data (text), APRS location and/or APRS messages, bulletins, news, mail etc... Of course you can use also UISS for basic normal packet, connecting your local node and bbs or for easy monitoring of any packet traffic, UNproto or not. Discover the features of UISS today...

Best of all, it´s free! Check it out at:
    http://users.skynet.be/on1dht/uiss.htm

  • UNPROTO COMMUNICATIONS   14 years 45 weeks ago

Gday Debbie, one quiet morning in Oz while ISS was passing, myself and a chap only 40 kms down the road, did the following, established a connection to each other via the ISS, e.g. PC-ISS-PC, carried out a conversation at the same time as interrogating each others Hard Drives. That was different. We used the UISS software, I have used this software during terrestrial tests and found it very good for looking around remote computers Hard Drives via packet.

They are finalizing the design of the certificate. It will be a while before they get printed and mailed.

I need to send my envelope in so I can get one also.

  • How to set-up UI-View   14 years 46 weeks ago

    Andreas,

The antenna does make a world of difference.

    I am using an APT-2CP:

This is a Turnstile antenna made for WX-Sat reception, however it loads nicely on 2m with 50 watts out.

You can see an example here:
    Hamtronics - R-139 page

The originals I believe were made by a company named Woodhouse. You will have to check to see if these are available in your country.

Before that I was using just a plain old 3db omni stick with exceptable results.

As far as rx´ing your own signal, I get at least one response a day. You can go to
    Heard list from ISS
and check to see if your signal was IGATED from ISS.

Anymore questions please let me know.

    Hi N9OEW
Thank you for your answer. I´ll try this. May be I´ll have to modify my antenna equipment. Currently I´m using a FT-897 with 50 W into a 10 el. vertical yagi (no elevation rotor )

May be I´ll buid a QHA antenna.

But I can hear the ISS packet signals very strong...

The last time I tried I sent about 20 packets and none returned. Is this normal or should it work with less?

I use UI-View, so if you have anymore questions please let me know.

  • How to set-up UI-View   14 years 47 weeks ago

Using the packet terminal program Packcom I set the path to

    CQ VIA RS0ISS-3

I hope this helps - it will be similar in UI View.

It is harder to get a repeat packet than you might think! The FM effect means that if there are many stations, your packet might not be heard, but you will get through eventually.

    viel Spass!

I just got off the phone with ARRL. Here is what they said.

Send a self addressed envelope for the return card.

    IRC´s to cover return postage,

AND A COPY OF THE RX´d TEXT.

    If you send this to:

    ARRL Headquarters
    ARISS QSL Expedition-8
    225 Main Street
    Newington, CT 06111-1494 USA

You will recieve a card in return.

    Hope this helps.

    N90EW,
    Thanks for the reply.

Can I send it to the US address shown on this site?

Also, do I need to include the actual packet message received or do I just include the stations heard communicating with RS0ISS?

  • ISS QSL   14 years 48 weeks ago

    9w2qc,

YES, you can request an SWL card based on your info. I don´t know about your country, but in the USA the requests are sent to ARRL. All we have to do is send a QSL card to the correct address and they send one back. If you need more info let me know and I will try to find out for you.

    Steve,

If you will try rs0iss-11 for the mailbox, you should have better luck.

To digipeat set your uproto path via ARISS and no matter what mode the station is in, you should be digipeated.
