Report Spacing question?
Paul,
reports are not only intended to show activity and inactivity of the station. Even if two reports are so close to each other they might give different comments. I dont see the point about limiting the amount of posts.Anyway those modules will be improved in the next future. As soon as I will have time and good ideas (or suggestions!) I will remake them.

IMHO we are priveliged to be a part of the ISS configuration.
Sometimes it´s frustrating when we are not switched on. But still, we have more chance than any other community to be in contact with the ISS, and that is, to be a part, however tiny, of the manned space program.
Of course I would love to be in permanent voice contact with the ISS as she rises over my local horizon. We would all like to do that. Maybe they have better things to do though??? ;>)
But we are a part of it: we have earned that part by our technical competence. So let´s not p*** off the adminstartors by our comments here.
It will be back.
ARISS is a fantastic program.

So we agree that amateur radio is on the station by sheer grace. Not a bad deal in my opinion. I do have one issue with the question "Whould AMSAT anywhere launch a sat. into space with out having control over the thing??" They seem to have had their share of problems keeping some satellites active. Too bad they don´t have a crew that can do a hands on fix.
The equipment on the ISS was meant to be run by the crew. I haven´t heard of a way to turn a D-700 on remotely?
Most of us are generally aware that when a school contact takes place, they turn the digi off to avoid interference issues. Apparently, it takes them a while to get around to turning the digi back on but it DOES come back on. At least we now have something to play with again. I waited for a year to do packet again. That´s called patience. Surely we can wait awhile till they notice that one of 4000 pieces of equipment is off and should be on.

WA9WEB, there´s just no pleasing you, is there?

WHY? The power budget is large enough to support a small city. Look at their daily schedule. Almost half of it is on the treadmill. Not that that is not important. Besides how long does it take to reset a radio. Please someone who has one let me know!.....WA9WEB
If there is a reason why it has to be shut down after a voice contact I would lile to know that as well. Their busy just does not cut it![ This message was edited by: wa9web on 21-03-2004 22:14 ] -

Please remember that the station was not supposed to be occupated by only 2 crew members.
Amareur Radio is not a primary payload.
Sometimes they need to switch radios off (not only amateur radio) to perform particular activities or investigations. -

If you don´t like it, don´t use it. The space station revolves around the Earth, not you. Try to show a little respect and gratitude. I can very easily see the exclusion of anything ham related on board the ISS if enough people become PITA´s about it.
We really are secondary users of the service where the ham radio gear on board the ISS is concerned. The kids in the schools are the primary priority. Education needs far surpass our hobby needs. -

I think my whole point is that we, us, the users of the equipment on board the ISS should have direct control over its operation. Whould AMSAT anywhere launch a sat. into space with out having control over the thing?????????????????????????
ARISS is about the last priority on the ISS. So was SAREX . With the disaray of NASA I dought that Amateur radio will have any measure of profile on future missions. I´m very thankful that there is amateur equipment abord the ISS. I just not satisified with its managment. Neither should you. I´m not up set with the interuption with the ISS. I have plunty of other sats. to follow. It is the lack of consistancy and the repeated errors in reseting the equipment. You want to know why NASA is in trouble its inconsistancy in their planing and operation. This is a sympton of a much bigger problem. WA9WEB[ This message was edited by: wa9web on 21-03-2004 07:28 ]

Thanks.

Frankly I´m honored they are thinking about us in the first place by having the station up there. Look what happened to SAREX, It got cancelled before the shuttle program temporarily ended.

I agree with N9OEW.......lets be thankful for what we *do* have......If people complain and get upset that a packet station was not turned on.....it may make them think twice about other proposed modes of operation down the road. We need to remember too......that they are astronauts first......then if they have time.....they enjoy our hobby.....lets keep it fun.

Instead of complaining because Roses have Thorns.
Maybe we should be thankful that Thorns have Roses.
This OUR hobby, not THIERS.
Why not just be thankful the Shack is on the ISS to begin with.
I don´t plan on being a SK for quite some time, meaning, there will be plenty of oppertunities for contact in the future.

Hi VA3HST,
The audio is on the main, and ISS

Maybe you have a volume button wich
can turn the audio off.
Even my system has a ON/OFF button!73´s Cor

Station active?
Why you posting Anonymous?
I Have a D700 and it´s GREAT, did you try reading the manual that came with it?

What is this guy doing?
What your seeing is that he has added an asterisk to RS0ISS* in his ground based APRS path, notice 7-2 then IGATE see´s the asterisk on ISS call an adds it to ISS Heard List. So why have a rig on ISS when anyone can IGATE or IP onto heard List. I too have seen others do this when station is clearly no on air. look at the data on ariss an you well see what I mean.

Station active?
all this time and they still cant get the most simple thing right on the ISS, no wonder i ditched my D700 , someone please send them a cell-phone so they can talk the poor things. All this tech and the most basic thing in the world cannot be accomplished (communication)_it is laughable
