do i need a tnc to receive packet ?
hi,
iv been listening to the iss for a few months now, and was a regular listener when bill mcarthur was on board. it was great to hear bill as he always seemed to be on the radio.
i see that the packet radio seems to be back up and running.
i have never received packet signals before.
i am only a listener and keen to receive any signals i can from the iss.
this morning i downloaded winpack, and am presently reading up how to set it all up.
my question is..... do i need a tnc to receive packet signals?, or is there any software that i can just use my radio and my soundcard to receive packet?

Spectacular visible pass with ISS flying 'into' the rising full moon.
Hi,
To all ISS Lunatics: (punn intended)
This evening I heard packet on freq, realized ISS would be visable at that time of night, just after sunset and went out to have a look. Saw the ISS very bright in the sky....but this pass was 'out of the ordinary' in that (from my location) the orbital pathtook it right 'into' a rising full moon, which was at 8 degrees.
ISS appeared right on target, but went into shadow moments before 'hitting' the moon.
So I came inside and checked out Calsky. Turns out to be a close shave...

What Powers The ISS Orbit?
I realise that objects orbit the Earth by falling around the Earth. But what is it that is pushing the ISS to keep it falling around the Earth?
Does it propel itself forward?
What are the engines and how much fuel do they consume?
Anyone got any reliable information?

Voice Contact:
How can one get a qsl voice contact, when the iss only talks to one specific station on its passes, also when will the SSTV portion be ready ...for downlink.
Mikhail Tyurin active Nov 19
Today I heard ISS Expedition 14 Flight Engineer Mikhail Tyurin on 145.800 MHz between 17:56 and 18:00 UTC. He answered questions about exercise on board the ISS to an unidentified interviewer. Asked 'how is the weather downstairs?' and stated that all he could see was cloud coverage (over the US North-East). LOS from my QTH happened at 18:00 UTC. Signal was perfect!

re; contact with mikhail
Guys, Please don't interfere next time you hear him. If he's making a contact to a specific ground station, let it be. The interview was conducted by VA3JDL and myself. We will post more information on what we're doing in the days to come. All I ask is that you give mikhail a chance to answer his questions to the specific ground party.
If things go as planned we can take questions from ISSfanclub.com at a pre-determined date and time. If Mikhail is willing to do it, and you guys are willing to submit the questions with your call-signs we can relay them to Mikhail. We CAN set this up if people cooperate with us. I will keep you guys posted.

Voice Report needs details
Somebody posted a voice report on Nov 16 at 1837 GMT. Unfortunatly, it contains no details about where, exactly when and what frequency this was heard on. Any one have the info?
