Weekends Best Time to Catch NA1SS on the Air
The best time to catch International Space Station (ISS) Expedition 12 Commander Bill McArthur, KC5ACR, on the air from NA1SS is during a weekend. Now about halfway through his six-month duty tour, McArthur already has more than 300 casual contacts in his log, and he's eager to up the count.
SPACE PATROL Frequencies
Thanks to Kenneth N5VHO and according to ARRL story, we have (I hope) the right operation list about the Space Patrol event:
ARISS-Russia's Sergey Samburov, RV3DR, has announced that his team and Russian Space Agency Roscosmos/Energia will sponsor "Space Patrol," a space-related operating event, December 25 and 26. The activity will be both space-based and ground-based and on HF as well as VHF.
International Space Station Flight Engineer Valery Tokarev will take part from space via RS0ISS. Special pass times are December 25 at 2056 UTC, and December 26 at 1947 UTC.
SPACE PATROL
We have received a message saying that the frequencies published on the ARISS Europe website are wrong. So please read the previous message to have the information but wait for a new post confirming the right frequencies.
I searched to speak with Sergei U5MIR but he is in S. Petersburg and he will be at home only on Monday 26 December.
We will post as soon as possible any news about the event.
SPACE PATROL: Christmas Special Event
On Christmas day 25 December 2005 and on Monday 26 December, ARISS Russia and the Russian Space Agency Roscosmos/Energia, set up a special event called SPACE PATROL.
Several Cosmonauts, among whom Sergei Krikalev and Aleksandr Kaleri, will operate amateur radio from Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia as well as from GCTC, the Yuri Gagarin Russian Cosmonaut Training Centre.
Christmas from Space
Here is a story we have received from John NO5X:
Christmas From Space.
I left my home at 07:00CST headed over to pickup Ronn (AD5JN) to go to our Saturday breakfast.
I knew there was an ISS pass starting at 07:25 local and the evening before, I had told Ronn that we should try to work this pass to see if it was packet or if, by chance, Bill might be active at the microphone.
Thanks Bill for my first voice contact from Thailand.
I would like to say thank you to Bill and all of you.
Tonight 2130 Local time [1430 UTC] thahiland, I made first voice contact with Bill from Udonthani.

ISS 12 Commander Shooting for WAC, WAS and Maybe DXCC from Space
ISS Expedition 12 Commander Bill McArthur, KC5ACR, has proven to be one of the more active Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) operators among ham radio operators who have occupied the space station. Early in his ISS duty tour, McArthur got on the air from NA1SS for Scouting's Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) event in October, but he's also been available during his off hours to make some quick, casual QSOs on 2 meters as well. In fact, McArthur's having so much fun operating from space that he's hoping to complete Worked All Continents (WAC), Worked All States (WAS) and maybe even DXCC from space.
2nd Astronaut contact For KI4JVK
I had my 1st QSO with Bill on 12-10-05 at 1520 UTC.He said it was nice hearing fron Alabama and reported my signal as 5/9,which is amazing.I was operating the Kenwood TR-751A (25 watts maxium output) feeding 50 feet of RG 213 cable to a 20 foot elevation J-Pole Antenna! Excellent contact from the HOME TO ARMY AVIATION (FORT RUCKER-A U.S.A Army Heliocopter training base)Daleville, Alabama! Hopeful since Bill is GO ARMY my QSO made his day in a little way, it really made my weekend.

Space Station voice tips to operate the crew!
Hello All,
We have seen that Bill McAthur (ISS crew) made many voice contacts all over the world (he loves hamradio!).
Did you know that PY4MAB worked (in 3 years) 7 astronauts (aboard ISS) with a simple vertical (GP) antenna?
