Well it was nice to work ISS again, Made first contact at 1153z then 15 minutes later ON4CHP followed by EB3CZS was heard. ON the next pass it was still on an each pass (worked 4 passes) more an more stations were heard / worked.
It was very nice to hear from ya WY1U , WD5EEV , K3LTM an many more. Thanks Yuri we miss hearing an working Alpha. 73 all KB1GVR

Frank Bauer, KA3HDO: ...It is our understanding that sometime on Sunday (tomorrow) Yuri will be reconnecting the 2 meter equipment, turning power back on and configuring the system for packet operation on the standard packet channel.

Packet operations aboard the ISS have been nonoperational since well before the Columbia loss. The inability of the current crew or NASA to engineer a fix may be symptomatic of larger problems within the agency.

Since MIR times I have always been obsessed by the fact that more than 90% of the bandwidth available is lost.
Is a 1200bps AX25 system what we really need?

Over the past few weeks the ARISS team has received numerous queries as to when the packet system will be turned back on. We want to thank you all for your concern in getting this important capability up and running again.

Today, 6 January 2003 at 1715Z I tried to connect to the packet system, but didn't hear anything...

The PMS onboard ISS is restored and in normal operations. Time is 01:05 UTC.
