Hi fellow ISS fans.

A while back I saw someone on youtube listening to an astronaut on board the ISS using his ordinary scanner, and I found that pretty interesting and facinating. So, since I own a scanner myself, I want to listen in. I know we're in a period of almost no chatter from the station.

Below is a small diagram of my scanner system, and could you kind people tell me if I'm good to go, or should I upgrade?

I tried, using a VHF/UHF Yagi base with 75 watts of power on the VHF frequencies
Up. 144.490
Dn. 145.200

And got nothing with the Bird right over my head.
This is not my first attempt and each one has failed.

Any suggestions?

Na1SS flies over again in roughly 2 hours.

Few minutes agoo I saw the ISS visible through te sky.
A bit cloudy but I could follow it a few minutes.
It will be visible next days above Europe.
If you have a smartphone download an ISS tracker so
it is easy to follow when you look outside.

My radio club is getting involved in the "school-contact" program. We're working out what equipment we need to borrow / buy / beg.

. . . Can somebody suggest a reasonably-priced mast-mounted preamp, and the TX/RX relay it will need for protection?

We have some experienced kit builders, if they're needed.

I assume it refers to The Shuttle but thats was quite some time ago ( thank goodness for SOYUZ).
