ISS Amateur Radio

The original VHF and UHF Ericsson handheld radios in the Russian segment of the ISS originally used for ARISS have been approved by NASA for use in the US segment of the space station. When the Ericsson radios are installed in the Columbus module it will become the second Amateur Radio station aboard the ISS. A new power cable for the Ericsson radios is being delivered to the ISS.

ET Shadow experiment

ISS Amateur Radio

A t least one operator has reported hearing a beep beep while the station was passing overhead on 145.800 MHz.

This is more than likely the Russian ET Shadow experiment being carried out. I have not had any updates regards this for some years now, but there is still plenty of information online about it, and it would seem things are still transpiring forward, although at a slower pace than would be desired.

Head of to your fav search engine and do a search for ET Shadow, have a read.

Doug Wheelock mentions his "Ham Radio friends" in a picture from Space

ISS Amateur Radio

Remember the happy birthday song from space? Doug Wheelock did it again! As he has promised he took a picture of the Iberian peninsula and sent it down on twitpic mentioning his Ham Radio Friends in Spain and Portugal.

A view of the Iberian Peninsula, the Strait of Gibraltar, the Mediterranean, and northern Africa . A special ‘shout out’ to my Ham Radio friends in Spain and Portugal: Fabiano, Paolo and Marco! Looks like a splendid summer afternoon, I am looking forward to our next contact. My very best wishes…

Photos of Doug Wheelock on the ham radio

ISS Amateur Radio

Hi!

NASA has posted 3 photos taken on Sunday (5 September) of Doug Wheelock using the ISS ham gear. It's also nice to see the captions identify the radio as a "ham radio system", instead of just a "communications system" as has been done in similar photos in the past. Here are links to the photos:

Crew Conducts Second Spacewalk to Replace Coolant Pump

ISS Amateur Radio

Expedition 24 Flight Engineers Doug Wheelock and Tracy Caldwell Dyson switched their spacesuits to battery power at 8:27 a.m. EDT, signaling the start of the second of three spacewalks focused on removing the ammonia pump module that failed July 31 and putting its replacement in place. Today's spacewalk is expected to last about six hours.

This is the fifth spacewalk for Wheelock, who is wearing the suit bearing the red stripes, and the second for Caldwell Dyson, who is wearing the unmarked suit.
