Astronaut Training 2

ISS Amateur Radio

ESA French astronaut Leopold Eyharts has been scheduled for U.S. amateur radio license training with Nick Lance and Kenneth Ransom. The training sessions will tentatively begin on May 31and continue over a two week period.

Astronaut Training

Kenneth Ransom reports that ESA French astronaut Leopold Eyharts began training for his U.S. amateur radio license. Kenneth has also set up time to present an ARISS overview to John Grunsfeld, KC5ZTF, on June 22. Grunsfeld is a backup for Expedition 13.

Discovery Arrives at the Pad

Space Shuttle Discovery is now on its launch pad nestled within the Rotating Service Structure. The Space Shuttle will undergo final preparations and prelaunch tests to ensure a safe launch and readiness to fly. Discovery's seven-member crew will test new hardware and techniques to improve Space Shuttle safety, as well as deliver supplies to the International Space Station.

ISS crew could be on the air for Field Day!

International Space Station crew members John Phillips, KE5DRY, and Sergei Krikalev, U5MIR, may be on the air for ARRL Field Day, June 25-26. ISS Ham Radio Project Engineer Kenneth Ransom, N5VHO, at Johnson Space Center, has reviewed potential ISS pass times, and he says a few are favorable for US stations--although some will occur during the very early morning hours. Phillips and Krikalev will use the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) radio gear aboard the spacecraft.

New Progress Launches Toward Space Station - 16 JUNE 2005

An unpiloted Russian cargo craft was launched Thursday from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. It carried more than two tons of supplies and equipment for the International Space Station and its Expedition 11 crew, Commander Sergei Krikalev and Flight Engineer John Phillips.
ISS Progress 18 launched on time at 7:10 p.m. EDT. It reached orbit in less than 10 minutes. Automatic commands deployed its solar arrays and navigational antennas. Engine firings are scheduled later Thursday to adjust the Progress' orbit for an automated docking at 8:44 p.m. Saturday to the aft port of the Station's Zvezda Service Module.

SuitSat update June 10

All,

I am proud to announce that today the ARISS-US team has delivered their portion of the Suitsat hardware to the NASA Johnson Space Center. NASA is in the process of shipping this hardware to Energia in Russia where it is expected to be certified and integrated with the Russian team's Suitsat equipment for eventual launch on the 19P Progress launch vehicle in the August/September 2005 timeframe.

NASA TELEVISION COVERS PROGRESS DOCKING TO STATION

When a fresh shipment of supplies arrives at the International Space Station, NASA TV will broadcast it live. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. EDT, Saturday, June 18. The automated Progress spacecraft, the 18th to visit the Space Station, will carry more than two tons of supplies for the Station's crew, Expedition 11 Commander Sergei Krikalev and NASA Science Officer John Phillips. The cargo includes a six-month supply of food, spare parts, water and oxygen. The Progress will also bring camera gear that Station crews may use to inspect approaching Space Shuttles.

Training the school listening to the contact in Switzerland

This morning during the scheduled training meeting at school, we had the opportunity to listen live at 145.800 MHz the contact between John Phillips and the school in Switzerland.
Our school, Comprensivo Negri situated in North Italy locator JN45FD, is waiting since 2004 for an ARISS opportunity to contact the Crew.

Successful ISS schoolcontact with Switzerland.

Hello All,

The ISS schoolcontact with Switzerland(this morning at 10-06-2005)was successful.
All questions of the students where answered
in a short period of time.
Intresting to hear, John Philips told that he received a warning(this morning)from mission control they considered to manoeuvre the Space Station to avoid a part of a delta rocket from a previous launch at the last minute they decited it was not necessary to manoeuvre
