ISS STATUS 25 MAY 2005
Expedition 11 spent last week performing maintenance, experiments and ensuring the International Space Station has plenty of oxygen. The crew is also preparing for the arrival of a Russian Progress cargo vehicle on June 18, as well as the Space Shuttle's Return to Flight on July 13.Commander Sergei Krikalev and Flight Engineer John Phillips repaired the Station's treadmill after detecting a faulty restraint cable. The crewmembers performed a variety of biomedical experiments. They also inspected fire extinguishers and monitored carbon dioxide and formaldehyde levels.
ISS STATUS REPORT Fri, 20 May 2005
The Expedition 11 crew, now into the second month of its stay on the International Space Station, had a varied week highlighted by repair of an exercise treadmill, tests of an oxygen supply and preparations for the Space Shuttle's Return to Flight.Commander Sergei Krikalev and Flight Engineer John Phillips began the week with the repair of a faulty restraint cable on the Station exercise treadmill. The broken cable, which is used to hold the treadmill's gyroscope in place, had been detected during a routine inspection by the crew last week. The treadmill is one of three exercise options for the Space Station crew and has been operational since the repair.
ISS Status Report - Dec. 10, 2004
International Space Station crewmembers this week continued research and maintenance activities and prepared for arrival of the next Progress cargo craft.
On Wednesday, Station managers reviewed preparations for the upcoming launch of the unpiloted Russian ISS Progress 16 resupply ship from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. They confirmed that work is progressing well for the scheduled liftoff at 4:19 p.m. CST Dec. 23.
ISS Status Report - June 30, 2004
The two space-age electricians completed the primary task -- installing a new circuit breaker to restore power to one of four gyroscopes that help orient the complex -- an hour ahead of schedule. Mission Control confirmed the gyroscope had power and appeared to be operating well a few minutes later. It is expected to be restored to full operation, assisting in controlling the Station's orientation, as early as Thursday afternoon.
ISS Status Report - June 24, 2004
A spacewalk intended to replace a faulty circuit breaker on the exterior of the International Space Station was cut short when the primary oxygen bottle on Astronaut Mike Fincke's Russian space suit began losing pressure faster than expected.
The overall pressure in Fincke's suit remained stable at all times and he was not in danger. A backup oxygen tank available on his suit was not needed.
ISS Status Report - May 25, 2004
An unmanned Russian Progress resupply ship blasted off today from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan to deliver 2½ tons of food, water, fuel and supplies to the residents of the International Space Station.
As the Station flew over the heart of Africa, the ISS Progress 14 craft lifted off its Central Asian launch pad right on time at 8:34 a.m. EDT (1234 GMT), and less than 10 minutes later, settled into orbit and deployed its solar arrays and navigational antennas.
