The crew of the International Space Station welcomed the first visitors to its home in space today when the hatch between the space station and the space shuttle Atlantis was opened at 11:51 a.m. CDT.

deliberate power up of the International Space Station is proceeding as
planned.
Russia will not abandon ISS project
MOSCOW, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Russia's space agency will not give up participation in the International Space Station despite funding hardships that have brought its chief spacecraft manufacturer to the brink of financial collapse, a space official told United Press International Friday.

An unmanned Russian resupply craft successfully docked to the International Space Station Sunday, bringing almost a ton of food, fuel and supplies.......
