Crew Busy Wednesday; To Talk to Educators Thursday
Expedition 7 Commander Yuri Malenchenko began Wednesday running. He participated in a Russian fitness session, which included a blood test and using the International Space Station's treadmill. NASA ISS Science Officer Ed Lu, who serves as the crew's medical officer, assisted Malenchenko during the session.
The crew then turned its attention to Thursday's robotic arm work. Malenchenko and Lu will use the period to review software that will be used during the robotic arm, or Candarm2, operations. The objective of the arm work is to give the crew some practice and allow flight controllers to view various areas of the ISS' exterior.
Malenchenko conducted a session with a plasma crystal experiment and checked out a Russian satellite navigation system. Lu took samples in routine microbial analysis.
In addition to the robot arm work on Thursday, Malenchenko and Lu will talk with 25 participants of the NASA Explorer Schools program. The teachers and administrators are at Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif. The 20-minute event can be seen live on NASA TV beginning at 1:50 p.m. CDT (1850 GMT).
