Packet off SSTV on?

Since the packet-radio repeater was of last pass over EU (12:33 UTC) maybe SSTV will be on later on? See: http://ariss-sstv.blogspot.com/2010/09/sept-activity-take-2.html

Sept activity - Take 2
Looks like the Russians are scheduling another run of the MAI-75 experiment for Sep 27-29. The activity is planned for 2 runs a day over Western Russian roughly between 0700-1100 UTC. No additional details at this time but likely to be a repeat of the earlier September session. "

Scheduled

The crew time line showed the system being activated at 08:30 and the "transmitter checkout" at 09:00 (during a pass over western Russia) and again at 10:35 before being deactivated a bit later. http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/484510main_092710_tl.pdf

Odd that no reports came out of Eastern Europe. Looks like packet was off during part of that time so they must have tried but maybe had issues getting it to work.

SSTV cam malfunctioning?

During today's and yesterday's passes over EU the SSTV camera was making a weird "beep-beep-beep" sound. It could also be heard when a picture was sent. Cor (PD0RKC) made a recording of it: http://iss.ontwikkel.nl/iss_SSTV.mp3

And it might be me, but today (08:21 UTC) the first picture I received started halfway. While at first the beeping noise was heard. Is there something wrong with the SSTV camera?

SSTV

The connector sometimes has to be adjusted to make good contact. That would explain the picture starting halfway. The beeping is something new and it suggests that additional audio is being introduced either at the computer where the images are stored or along the cableing that connects to the radio.

SSTV

TNX fer comment Ken.

Though you can hear it even during transmission of a picture, and in between two pictures, it does not interfere with SSTV decoding. And it helps tuning my rig for doppler effect.

BTW: were pictures being received today/yesterday by American stations (beside EU, Asia and Australia)? That would imply the cam is continuously on for several hours. And that is great news!
At least to my ears ;-)

No SSTV for N. America

The system was only operating for a couple of orbits on Sept 28. Saw reports from Asia and Australia in addition to Europe but it was not on long enough to make it to N. America. They shut it down after the two passes over Moscow area. Looks like they only had it operational in range of Moscow today. This SSTV system does not use a camera by default. The images are take by a digital camera, copied to a folder on the computer and then transmitted from that folder. Someone has to take new photos (and removed the old ones) for the images to change.
