Advice on radio equipment for ISS voice/packet

Hello,
I am new to amatuer radio, about to take my exam and get licensed.
I would like to do voice and packet data to the ISS.

However I am wondering what equipment is good for this.
Can a handheld 2m radio do the job? What entry level radio's would
people recommend? I was looking at the Kenwood D700 but some
people say it does not have good buffer space for packet, and fills
up quickly.

Any advice, or pointers on where to look would be helpful.
Perhaps if this website, each member could describe their equipment
somewhere - that would be useful for beginners like me.

Thanks

Recommended equipment for talking to ISS.

Hello,
I am going for my Technician license pretty soon and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what some good equipment would be to get for communicating with the ISS?

Thanks,

Jason
