By opening this site, I came to know about ISS Fan club and the most important aspects I found is earning awards, contesting, and collecting QSL card. But I don't know how to get involve in such a nice fan club. I am curious to know further about it. Any kinds of kind response would be deserved to be appreciated.
Thank you,
Hello Dosurfin
Hello Dosurfin,
Glad you found this site. As to being a "fan" I guess all that would be required would be an interest in the space station. That said, many here are licensed Amateur radio operators AKA "Hams." This allows us the opportunity and privilege to make 2 way radio contacts with the ISS. Once we can get the contact confirmed time in UTC, date, and frequency via a QSL card. We fire our card off to the respective address listed on this website. In a few weeks, we receive our much-awaited QSL card confirming our contact with the ISS. While I have not actually tried it, you could probably also get a QSL card as a SWL (short wave listener). This would require you actually listening to an ISS conversation with a ground station (ham). Then log the previously mentioned info UTC time, date, and possibly bit about the conversation, call letters of operators if possible. You would then again, send this to the respective address for you area along with a SASE self-addressed stamped envelope. As far as just listening goes, to catch the crew in actual voice contact normally only happens in their off duty hours. This is to say don't expect to hear them on every pass over your area. You can usually check this website to see at what times others copied them from your area of the world. You would also need to know their orbital path and times they would be in range of your area. This can be found on a number of websites. (Heavens Above is good) After all no point in listening, if they are out of range. As far as equipment to "listen" to them all that is required is a FM radio that will tune their downlink voice frequency 145.800mhz + or -. Even a cheap scanner will probably suffice. On a near overhead pass they are super easy to pick up on a handi-talky. For a farther away pass a little bit more antenna would possibly be required and a clear shot in their direction. Going from the Ham radio side of the picture there's tons of info on the web about getting you license, setting up a station and tips on making contacts with the ISS. There are even a few cool videos on You Tube. Hopefully I've not clouded the issue for you too much. I'm sure others can add more tips for you. Main thing is if your not a ham go for just listening for them. It's quite a thrill to just hear them on the air. Keep in mind you'll only hear their side of the conversation. To listen is great but actually making contact is better. I've been fortunate enough to make two contacts in the last few weeks. Both times when Col. Wheelock came back to me I pretty much fell apart like a dollar watch! Ha The ultimate thrill !!
Good Luck!

ISS QSL CARD
I made contact with the ISS last August 26th and sent QSL card to the ARRL and Europe QSL managers. I haven't received response yet. What's up ??.
ISS QSL
ARRL ran out of cards for a while and just recently got new ones. I believe they are now caught up so it is likely that your card is in the return mail. A card to Europe could take quite a while to make the trip via post.
I presume you did include return postage (IRC or $$) and a self addressed envelope?

QSL CARDS FROM THE ISS
K6KOZ - April 16, 2009 - 10:47
Some encouraging news for those who are waiting for a QSL Card or Certificate:
I had a FM Voice QSO with Mike Fincke on 12/25/08 (Christmas Morning). on 144.490/145.800 MHz.
I mailed my QSL Card to the listed ARRL Headquarters Address in the USA on 12/26/08.
I received a NA1SS QSL Card back by return mail in the middle of Feb. 2009. So it took approx. 2 months to receive a reply.
Have patience, you will receive one back, it just takes time!!!.

QSL process
as a new member to ISS fanclub I have a question about the procedure.
In order to get a ISS QSL card, is my completed QSL card sufficient enough to receice the ISS QSL card, or does there be a recording to prove it.

RS0ISS-11 BBS packet
Do you get a qsl card if you post a msg on the RS0ISS-11 bulletin board asking for one? I would like to have one. A fellow ham said that I should try doing that. Its my first attempts at doing any packet on ham radio so trying to connect to the space station was lots of fun. I did make contact tonight. I guess the last try was around 10:20PM 2.19.12 i was able to see it in the BBS list too.
thanks
Lost Original QSL contact with Cmdr William McArthur NA1SS
I lost my original QSL from NA1SS Cmdr William McArthur after assisting Morristown TN Merit Badge College. I am about to help JOTA Jamboree on the Air soon and would like to know if I acquire a duplicate of the one and only contact with ISS.

ISS QSL size / SASE question
What is the size of the ISS QSL card?
This would determine the size of the SASE a person needs to send to receive the ISS QSL card.
In advance, many thanks!

Too Bad We Don't Use Them
To been be able to to use the machines back in the day would have been pretty cool. Especially since that would have been the only way of communicating not like now.

QSL card for ARISS School contact programme
Hi,
An ARISS school contact programme has been organised for H.A.L. School Lucknow, India students on 12th May 2016 at 0811 Hrs UTC. In which Tim Kopra KE5UDN answered the questions of students.
I do feel very much delighted to know whether the students alongwith the teacher who participated in programme may get the QSL card from ARISS.
If yes, what should we do.
If we get soft copies of the QSL cards, we can take printout of QSL cards at our end.
Pl do reply.

Re: Contact ISS for a coms check -=Chris US ARMY=-
Hello Chris,
ISS transmitting DATV Digital Amateur Television between 2.422 GHz 2.437 GHz.
It requires a DATV receiver and a yagi or dish.
Maybe more interesting for you to listen ISS contacts with schools, these are done in analog voice mode on 145.800Mhz (FM).
Sceduled ARISS school contacts will be anounced on:
https://twitter.com/ARISS_status
http://www.ariss.org/ (See upcomming contacts).
These school contacts can be heard with a simple scanner receiver and vetical base antenna in open air.
If you have questions let me know.

Thank you Cor for yr reply.
If I well understood, I have to send the SASE without any stamp
and a 2€ coin to cover the cost of the french stamp that Mr. Candebat
will use to send the Qsl to Italy, right?
I know it's a childlike question, but I have no experience.. :)

Hello Stefano,
SASE + your QSL card + 2 euro.
Yes the 2 euro is to cover the costs for the ARISS manager to
send you the ISS QSL.
F1MOJ is the ARISS manager for Europe also for Italia!
The new ISS QSL card desing is verry beautiful.
Maybe the most special QSL in your QSL collection! (hi).

Hi Richard,
I have checked the last ISS QSL design and the size is:
14cm x 9cm

Thanks
So, the card is about the same size as mine.
Hmm...Makes me wonder why it is suggested to send a large envelope. But, that's no big deal.
Many thanks Cor.

QSL
Your completed QSL card is all that is needed. Fill it out just like you would to exchange for any other contact you want confirmed.
Same QSL card
Each region has the same QSL card. They only change when the supply runs out and ARISS orders a new set. To date there have been two designs. The way Doug is burning through cards we'll probably see a third pretty soon.
