West Coast Columbia re-entry over northern California
Received from Scott Avery WA6LIE
Hello all…,
On this Saturday morning the Space Shuttle Columbia will be landing in Florida.
However it is entering earth's atmosphere coming near California, and will be passing from west to east just north of the SF Bay area. (Map included with path)
Look to your west and north a bit at 1350 UTC or 0550 PST.
If not cloudy, you will see a plasma trail as it passes close to overhead to the north of us going from the west to east. It should appear like a comet, and have a yellow/orange color to it depending upon light refraction. This will only last for 5 minutes of visibility!
So get out your cameras and video cameras to get this!
This does not happen often, and the last time I remember was close to 15 years ago!
Also, listen for dual sonic booms that should occur at 13:56:35 UTC 05:56:35 PST After the shuttle passes to the east.

--------------------------------------------------
At 1350-1355 UTC (0550-0555 PST) you should be able to see the space Shuttle
leading a long plasma trail over our skies.
It will be North of San Francisco by about 30 miles or so....
It's track will be from the west to east. At 45 miles in the sky, hopefully we will get a good show on the west coast!
These landings, and path/time happen vary rarely!!
So, get out your cameras and camcorders!!
