440 MHz operations and PMS Modification?
G´day Kenneth, may I suggest not turning off the PMS help etc as some of us aren´t on the internet and can´t get terrestrial packet access due to remoteness, Sats are it sometimes. I´m working in Melbourne for a tad and I am giving the Net such a hiding while I´m here collecting as much info and software as possible. I will pass on info I have to amateurs here that want to be ISS users, but without that help file I reckon I would have made ten times the errors with the limited info that was on hand.
Also if some files cannot be downloaded how are they going to be forwarded on to internet sites like this.
New users make mistakes (like me) and need to learn. I guess the skilled PMS user pulls out their hair watching the green horn stumble and fall, that´s me. I´m getting my feet though, I´ll be right.
What a wonderful thing the PMS is.
If I have said anything extremely stupid, please point it out to me, remember, I´m new to all this but I do like a good discussion mixed with learning.
Since mentioning my ISS contacts here several amateurs have shown a desire to also make ISS contact by asking silly old me all about it. I´ll do my best to get the lot of them up there.
Cheers Kenneth, might see you in orbit.

440 MHz operations and PMS Modification?
440 MHz operations are quite difficult for average users.
I remember when MIR tried only a few people where able to correclty compensate doppler on both uplink and downlink frequencies.
Sometimes only one station was seen on the PMS during night passes.
I personally wish they will do it soon. -

ISS PMS
Mark,
Thanks for the thought, however that bug was fixed prior to this message being uploaded. I can list, send. But I can´t read or kill the message left for me. I was trying to kill it to make room in the mailbox, but NO GO.
NEVER MIND!!! I just found the problem. He spelled my call as "N9EOW" instead of "N9OEW" I´ll try to fix the prob on next pass....

Telemetry
Hi !
I am afraid that ISS sends down the telemetry via TDRSS.
Tdrss is a geosync. sat system used by Nasa to relay important data from objects in space to the ground.
It might be possible to pick the signal up, but its pretty hard (maybe impossible) to decode it.73´s

Hello,
in this moment onboard ISS there is only a transceiver using 2mt frequencies.
Packet and voice operations are normally used.
SSTV is a future project and in this moment is waiting for NASA flight certification.
I think SSTV will fly on ISS next year (latest news saying end 2003).73 Claudio IK1SLD

How would you rate Valeri's ham radio performance onboard ISS?
Valery used to be on voice contacts very often, giving a chance to those who never contacted ISS before. I used to talk with him very late in the evening when I thought it would be almost impossible to have him awake. He loves radio communications with hams on earth. We shall be grateful to him. THANKS Valery.
